Ancient
History The first use of coral in medicine is impossible to document
but it clearly began thousands of years ago. The use of mariceuticals
(medicine from marine organisms) is well documented in ancient Arabic
and Chinese literature but the first specific mention of coral is found
in Indian Ayurvetic Medicine, dating back some 5,000 years.
Coral was first introduced as medicine to the Western World by the 9th
century Arab expansion into Europe. The Persian philosopher Al-Kindi had
included coral in the "Medical Formulary" (830 A.D.), which
was adopted by the Arab world upon the Muslim conversion of Persia and
then spread during their westward campaigns. Proof of western coral usage
can be seen in one of the world's oldest pharmacies (established 1685), that is
still in existence and preserved as a museum in northern Spain. Among
the rows of bottles on the ancient shelves is a container of coral powder
with the inscription that "The blond coral is the only coral used
for medicine". The inscription further states that the coral has
a beneficial effect upon the heart and elevates the mood of the person
taking it.

Okinawan Centurions
History remains silent on coral from 1700 - 1900 but local legend reports
that coral remained in use in Okinawa. Many say that the coral minerals
are the reason for the indisputable longevity of the Okinawan people.
Japanese population studies show that Okinawa has the highest incidence
of people 100 years of age or over. These Okinawan Centurions are not
a feeble group of invalids confined to a nursing home. These are active
senior citizens with productive lives and enjoying their golden years,
they just happen to be over 100 years of age. |
| Amercian
History
Prior to 1980, coral, as a nutritional supplement, was unknown in the
United States or virtually anywhere outside of Japan. A Swedish industrialist
named Rolf Ericsson is credited with introducing coral to the western
world. Rolf Ericsson's son Stephan was living in Japan and became familiar
with the health giving qualities of Okinawa coral and convinced his father
that it represented a sound business opportunity. Rolf Ericsson organized
the distribution and successfully introduced nutritional coral into Europe
and America. Rolf Ericsson selected the name "Coral Calcium"
for the natural coral complex of 74 minerals.
This original Ericsson coral product was in the form of tea bags. Small
tea bags containing 1000mg. of coral sand were recommended for placement
in one litre of water. About 20% of the coral minerals would enter the
water that was to be consumed throughout the day. Many people used and
experienced the benefits of the teabags; however, as the industry began
to study and research the use of coral, many researchers realised that
if they ate the coral directly, the absorption and benefit was greater.
Thus, were created the "fine powder" capsule and caplet products.
The development of these "fine powder" coral products led to
the procurement of fine coral product raw materials by VitaCorp International's
manufacturer. These "fine powder" capsules and caplets have
quickly become the popular and preferred way to take coral products.
Researchers beleived that consuming water treated with the coral sand
provided significant health benefits and that eating the actual sand provided
even greater results. The logical strategy was to develop a product consisting
of fine coral powder. Working with leading scientists, nutritionists and
doctors, Vitacorp International has done just that by establishing raw
materials source for fine coral powder from Okinawa.
Ingesting the fine coral powder (as opposed to drinking water treated
with coral sand) proved to be a far more effective way of putting minerals
into the blood. This greatly increased method of coral mineral bioavailability
attracted much attention and many companies quickly copied the successful
concept. Encapsulated coral powder became the preferred coral product
very rapidly and within a few months only a few distributors of the once
popular coral tea bags remained.
Many companies and infomercials make exaggerated claims about the health
benefits of coral. It is not necessary to exaggerate. Coral is a fabulous
product and should be promoted for what it is. Vitacorp deals with the
facts and encourages Internet and infomercial viewers to beware of overstated
health claims and misleading information.

| Why You Need
Coral Minerals? Some
doctors say that 157 diseases are caused by mineral deficiency.
Minerals make up the basic foundation of health.
Our soils have become
depleted of minerals; thus, our foods and our bodies have become mineral
deficient.
Coral naturally contains
every mineral found in the body and unlike most mineral supplements, coral
minerals get in and really work. |
What Are Coral Minerals?
A small sea animal creates coral by ingesting the ionic ocean minerals
and secreting them into a coral formation. This natural balance of 74
organic coral minerals are harvested from above sea coral deposits, crushed
into an ultra-fine powder and sterilized with ozone.
The natural balance of all 74 minerals is important because each mineral
requires other minerals to do its job and in turn, those minerals require
different supporting minerals. All minerals must be present for any one
mineral to work properly.
The organic nature (previously digested by an animal) of the coral minerals
is also important. It is very difficult to assimilate minerals, especially
inorganic minerals. Organic coral minerals are highly absorbable. |
|
What makes the coral minerals so absorbable is the natural ability to
become ionic upon contact with moisture. This natural ability to go ionic,
combined with the full spectrum, organic formation, makes coral one of
the most absorbable form of minerals.
|

(A mineral needs other minerals to be present or it won't do it's job
correctly.) |
| How Do Coral Minerals Work?
Minerals are the basic foundation for health. From our bones to the multitude
of enzymatic activities within and without our cells, minerals are the
key that opens the door to optimum health. This is accomplished by supplying
the body with missing minerals that have crucial roles to play and by
bringing overall mineral levels up, thereby raising the pH of body fluids
and tissues back to their natural healthy levels. A high pH (alkaline)
is important because most disease thrives in a low pH (acidic). |
|
Most people in our society are mineral deficient because the soils have
become depleted through unsustainable farming practices. When the minerals
are supplied in an organic absorbable form, health can improve. Coral
contains every mineral needed by the body and is known for it's synergistic
relationship with the body. Did you know that orthopedic surgeons use
pieces of coral for bone grafts because the bone and tendons readily accept
the coral?
|

(Minerals are essential for the proper function of amino acids, enzymes
and almost every aspect of human health.) |
| Where Does Coral Come
From? All coral supplied by Vitacorp is harvested from above sea.
Thousands of years ago this coral was a thriving coral reef. Geologically,
this coral was pushed up above sea level, free from the ocean pollution
of the industrial era.
Only the pristine white coral heads are harvested. This harvesting process
involves removal of the protective layer of soil that accumulated over
the eons and collecting the ancient coral. The environmental consequences
are similar to any small land based mining operation.
After the coral is collected, it is ground into a 2 to 10 micron size
powder (smaller than a red blood cell). After grinding, the coral is purified
in a vacuum ozone chamber and then packaged for distribution.
Vitacorp respects the fragile state of the coral reefs and ocean environment.
Unfortunately, other companies do take dead coral rubble from the ocean.
Dredging the ocean floor devastates the ocean ecology and is detrimental
to the living reefs. Coral larvae propagate in the dead coral debris and
any disturbance directly affects the life of the living reef.

(Using above sea coral never impacts the living reef.)

(Living coral reefs are never touched
in making of Coral Calcium Plus.)

Benefits
Coral has gained an impressive reputation as a health supplement capable
of delivering seemingly miraculous health improvements. So many totally
different health problems are relieved with coral supplements that it
begs the questions: How can this be? How does coral work? The answer is
found in the availability and absorbability of the minerals that are naturally
present in the coral.
The populations of modern society are experiencing a virtual epidemic
of mineral deficiency. The farming soil has been stripped of minerals
through unsustainable farming practices and soil erosion. If the minerals
are no longer in the soil, they are not in the foods. If the minerals
are not in the foods, they are not in our body. Over 150 different diseases
have been linked to mineral deficiency. Many of these deficiencies are
with the trace minerals and are virtually impossible for a doctor to diagnose.
Coral naturally contains every mineral found in the human body in similar
proportions as the human body. Coral minerals are one of the most effective
ways to put minerals into the blood because of the high absorbability
of the minerals. There are four main reasons the coral minerals are so
highly absorbable:
a. Full Spectrum
b. Organic
c. Ionic
d. Synergistic
With the coral minerals being available as a complete spectrum and all
74 individual minerals being highly absorbable by the body, two main health-building
functions are achieved:
1. As specific trace mineral deficiencies are fulfilled, the health ailment
caused by that mineral deficiency is relieved. These ailments can be virtually
anything from a persistent skin rash to high blood pressure.
2. As the bio-available calcium and other alkalizing minerals get into
the blood and the cells, the body pH begins to return to the natural slightly
alkaline level. Most disease thrives in an acidic environment. Maintaining
a healthy pH may help in the recovery from a degenerative disease but
more importantly, a degenerative disease has difficulty ever getting started
in an alkaline environment.
|
| Full Spectrum
Every mineral needs other minerals to support it in order to do its job
effectively. And each supporting mineral needs other minerals to support
them. Hence minerals work best in a complex, such as coral, where every
mineral is present in a natural balance.
The mineral wheel diagram shows how some of the minerals are related
and need each other. Imagine the complexity of the diagram if all 74 of
the coral minerals were shown.
|

(Mineral Wheel Diagram) |
Organic
Coral minerals are organic in the sense that an animal has previously
digested them. It is very difficult for the human body to digest inorganic
minerals (similar to eating little rocks). Having been previously digested
by the coral polyp, coral minerals are readily absorbable by the human
body.

(Coral Polyp)
|
| Ionic |
| Coral minerals possess the natural ability to go ionic
upon contact with moisture. When coral powder is placed in water over
half of the minerals go into the ionic state. Ionic means the smallest
atomic size. Ionic is the size required by the body for digestion. Ionic
is much smaller than colloidal. |

(Atomic Diagram) |
Synergistic
Coral is naturally synergistic with the human body. This
is evidenced by the medical practice of using pieces of coral in bone
grafts. Orthopedic surgeons use coral in bone grafts because the body
readily accepts the coral and the various muscles and tendons grow into
the coral structure as if it were actual human bone.
